Reverb and Effects Part Two: Drums, Perc, and Guitars

In this lesson, Mike White, course creator and sole presenter, discusses how he applied short delay leading into an early reflections program, along with applying a little bit of compression to get the drums to pump and breathe, along with an Ocean Ways studio emulator for simulated room sound. There was also discussion of using an EMT plate reverb on the handclaps to give more space to the backbeat, a doubler effect on the synth lead to pull the synth lead forward. It was also discussed that an early reflection can be something like a slap delay or a series of delays. Also discussed was the idea of using doublers on vocals, and the use of a ‘short room’ emulation to pull the background vocals forward.

Continuting on with second species work today, I completed an upper and lower second species counterpoint on the Lydian mode:

I have decided to start including audio clips of my theory work so they can be listened to while following along with the score or just listened to. I am getting inspiration for how to employ contrapuntal technique in my electronic muisc work. I didn't add analysis for harmonic intervals. That will come later.

The overall sound of this ep is shaping up to be much more tripped out and dystopian, and not so much harsh controlled voltage noise. It's also got more of a trip-hop feel to it in some ways. DIA is a multi-faceted beast.
